BURLINGTON OPRY NEWS --- DAVE WOOGE --BURLINGTON OPRY NEWS
Hello folks.  We’ve been on vacation and just got back.  However, we are ready to put on a great 50s and 60s show for you all this Saturday night.

This Saturday is our 50s and 60s rock n roll show.  We’ve got some great guests for this show and I think you will enjoy them.  Headlining is Lorena Prater from Vasaar Kansas.  Lorena has been on the stage many times and is a very talented singer and entertainer.  She really brings life to the stage with her funny antics.  Second of all we have the Singing Bus Driver, Mr. David Welch.  David is from Belton, Mo and brings a bus load of folks with him when he comes.  He’ll be doing some of his normal stuff plus a little Elvis.  Along with these two we have Mr. Frank Maffei from Ottawa, Ks.  Frank does a great job singing, but  his really amazing style is Neil Diamond.  He can imitate him very well.  This will be his first time on this stage.  I’m sure he will be fantastic.

Along with these great folks we have the Music Box band with Russell Wolf, Jody Jackson, David Wooge, David Hammersmith, and on drums we have Mr. Michael Edigar.  Michael has performed with us before on stage, and is filling in on drums for us.  We are hoping he can work into the full time drummer position.

Don’t forget the show is this Saturday, august 2nd at 7:00.  Doors open at 6:15.  Enjoy hot dogs and Polish sausages and shaved ice at our concession stand.

See you when the curtain opens!!!!!!

David Wooge

MORE MICHELLE LEA NEWS!! GOOD LUCK MICHELLE!!
HEY FOLKS!!!
LET ME JUST GET TO THE GREAT NEWS...
AMERICAN IDOL
Michelle Lea has another opportunity to audition before American Idol PRODUCERS!!!
It's another long shot but keep your fingers crossed...  Channel 4 is holding a KC IDOL competition and the way to register is through their website.  We are not sure how many tried to register or the process they used for selection.  However, Michelle is one of 200 people who will audition in front of judges on July 30th at Crown Center.  Only 2 people out of the 200 will then get the opportunity to bypass the audition lines at Kemper Arena on Aug. 8th and audition before the American Idol Producers.  Like I said, it is a long shot but it is one more shot than she had before.
OTHER NEWS....
Many folks have expressed the desire to have a tailgate party in the Parking Lot at Kemper Arena on Aug. 8th.  The day of the competition.  So I am looking into purchasing a banner for them that they can display proudly in the parking lot.  I will have more information on this next week.
Please, also let us know if you would like to attend the tailgate party.  We will be glad to give you more information as the audition date gets closer. Aug. 8th is only 13 more days from now.   Michelle has been working very hard to be ready and she appreciates the support you all have given her.   Expect more Newsletters as things develop.
Sincerely,
Ken, Wendy &
Michelle Lea

KANSAS CITY MUSIC LEGEND MIKE O’ROARK FACES LIFE-THREATENING CANCER BENEFIT SCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY, AUGUST 17

For over 40 years, music lovers throughout the country have delighted in the bluegrass sounds of Mike O’Roark.  Known for his comic delivery of traditional bluegrass, country and gospel music, he has performed with the likes of Conway Twitty, Alan King, Bill Monroe, Earl Scruggs, Lester Flatt, Red Skelton, The Oak Ridge Boys, Jerry Reed, Tom T. Hall, Billy Crash Craddock, Kenny Price, Del Reeves, Don Williams, Bill Monroe, Johnny Paycheck, The Kendalls, Leroy Van Dyke, Bill Haley's Comets, Ricky Skaggs, Kenny Rogers, Keith Whitley and Alabama. Mike currently fronts various acts including The O’Roark Brothers, The Goodtime Gospel Group, Mike O’Roark’s Nitty Gritty Dirk’s Band, and a bluegrass/opry group. He also host’s Kansas City oldest “Open Microphone” at Dirk’s bar and grill in the Northland on Wednesdays. Recently, Mike has been diagnosed with melanoma. Sadly, this cancer has spread to his brain and spinal cord. He has undergone chemotherapy, radiation therapy and Gamma Knife surgery, but the cancer keeps returning. He will soon be participating in a drug trial that mandates frequent travel to St. Louis.  Mike has dedicated his life to entertaining and bringing joy to others. When asked how he is coping with the disease he states, “I just want to play music as long as I can.”  In support of this treasured musician, Mike’s friends and family are organizing a benefit to help offset the expenses of Mike’s medical care and treatment-related travel to be held on Sunday, August 17th, 12 noon at Finnegan’s Hall (505 E 18th Ave, North Kansas City, MO 64116). The event will include a silent auction, a traditional auction, live music by Irish songster Bob Reeder as well as Jim Eaton and The Whiskey Benders and an appearance by The O’Roark Brothers.  Tickets are $20 and provide access to music, auction and cash bar. ### For more information, contact Terry O’Brien at 816-746-8787 or 816-589-8845 or via email at MikeandMitchShow@aol.com.               www.mikeoroark.com
